Because You Asked For It ...

Good news! Because of the tremendous interest expressed in St. Croix's Middle School program, we're expanding our plans to include 8th grade earlier than we anticipated. That's right, when St. Croix Lutheran Middle School opens in fall 2009, we'll offer grades 6, 7 and 8!

Here's an excerpt from a letter we sent to parents...

"With interest so high, we have heard from numerous families that they would like us to begin an 8th grade class in 2009 which wasn’t originally in the plans to begin until next year. Because so many have asked for it, and because it is aligned with our ultimate goal of educating children grades six through twelve, I am delighted to announce that we will begin enrolling students who will be entering 8th grade in the fall 2009 effective immediately. Because you were among the first to enroll your child in the middle school, I wanted you to be among the first to know about this decision. We couldn’t be happier than to be opening the middle school with the full complement of classes."

With more than 70 students expressing interest in the Middle School program and the ability to enroll just one-third of them, contact us today to reserve your spot!

Learning Should Be Fun, Right?

At St. Croix Lutheran Middle School, we have teachers who are wholly committed to making classroom learning fun and engaging, but on top of that, we have some help from our new friend, Promethean.

Gone are the days of chalkboards and chalk or even whiteboards and markers, Promethean Boards (above) are interactive boards mounted at the front of each classroom in the Middle School. They project images from a teachers' computer to the front of a room for all students to see. More than that, each student in the class is outfitted with an expressions clicker (below). These nifty devices allow each child to play an active role in learning.

Say for example a student is sitting in his or her history class and a question appears on the board that reads, "How many articles make up the U.S. Constitution? A. 4; B. 7; C. 9; or D. 10" Each student can answer the question by touching the keypad on the clicker and instantly, a pie chart will appear on the Promethean Board that displays the class' answers. How's that for interactive learning?

At St. Croix, we're always looking for ways to help students bring their learning to a whole new level. Caring teachers are just part of the equation. Innovative techniques is another.

By the way, how many articles do you think are in the U.S. Constitution? I'll give you a hint, the answer is a prime number.

Introducing Mr. Hulse

With spring upon us and the end of the school year in sight, life is moving at a lightening-fast pace. We're building a great team here at St. Croix Lutheran Middle School and plan to use this blog to introduce you to some of the people who will join us. Up first: Mr. Hulse, an experienced teacher who will start with us this fall!

Mr. Hulse and his wife, Erin, have two energetic boys -- Malachi (3) and Tristan (1). Mr. Hulse enjoys sports, yard work and spending time with his family. A graduate of Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Mr. Hulse is moving from Des Moines, Washington -- where he taught language arts, science, math, social studies and religion -- to teach at St. Croix. In addition to his work in the classroom, he also coached basketball, flag football, soccer and track.

Here's why we love Mr. Hulse ...

He writes: "The education of children is something I take very seriously. I strive to have the students use what they learn in my classroom in their everyday lives. Seeing them succeed in everything they do is a true joy for me. I look for every opportunity to write across the curriculum and have all subjects interact with each other. Using technology with student interaction to make learning fun, is a goal in all of my classes."

Welcome, Mr. Hulse!
