Eagle Bluff

On Wednesday, September 8, 2010 the students at St. Croix Lutheran Middle School came to school with their bags packed ready to go to Eagle Bluff. At around 8:30 a.m. we were packed into the bus for a two hour ride down to Eagle Bluff.
When we arrived we went to meet our liaison, our leader, Mitch who told us about some different awards that were possible for us to win. One was the Golden Plate Award. To receive this we had to have less than 3 lbs. of leftover food. We could win a different award if we ate all of our food. Even though we didn’t receive the award for eating all our food, we still did win the Golden Plate Award by eating all except 1.5 ounces. Another award we could win was the Eagle Eye award. To do that we had to have at least 6 eagle eye points.  To earn the eagle eye points we could pick up garbage outside and eat all our food. To get eagle eye points taken away we would leave water running or leave lights on. We were happy to win the Eagle Eye Award.
Our school was split into three groups who each took four classes spread out over three days. We took a bird watching class. During that class we got to go to the “overlook” which is a gorgeous view where we can see the bluff. We also took a class on GPS. During that we went geo-caching and learned to wear pants rather than shorts during geo-caching. Another class we took was pioneer life. There we learned about how pioneers lived. The last class we had was the treetops course which was a ropes course. Some people learned to face their fears others just learned to challenge themselves.
At night we did different things one night we had a night hike in the forest. We played games and heard stories and we looked at the stars. The next night we had a bonfire where we sang songs, told stories, and of course had s’mores.
On the last day we left after lunch. We left knowing more about conserving energy, not littering, different animals, and not wasting food. We didn’t only learn about the environment, but we also learned about our classmates.  Overall we had a lot of fun at Eagle Bluff and made lots of memories.
